In the belly: Steamed Spring Rolls and Vegetarian Pad Thai
Rating: mmmhmmm, dependably tasty in the past…
The winner of 4 “Best of Baltimore” awards, Thai Restaurant has been a Baltimore sweetheart for years. Reasonably-priced and consistently well-prepared, simple dishes make it a haven for tasty Thai near the Hopkins campus. I went this Saturday and for an appetizer, shared the Steamed Spring Rolls. The rolls were soft and hot, stuffed with pieces of boiled cabbage and carrot, and doused in a sweet orange sauce. I was unprepared for this dish (I was expecting more of a summer roll) and the sauce overpowered all the other flavors.
I also felt the Pad Thai I ordered was too dry- it was literally covered with crushed peanut. The broccoli was overcooked and the dish had no enjoyable distinctions in taste or texture. But one friend ordered excellent Drunken Noodles (drunken noodles, two stars, is how she indicated the level of spice she wanted) and another friend loved the Thai Fried Rice. And since I’ve usually always had delicious food at Thai Restaurant, so I don’t hesitate to recommend it.
Entrees: $9-$15
