The Gourmet Cartographer lives in Brooklyn and works in the editorial department of a large New York publishing company, where she edits textbooks for middle schoolers. She grew up outside of Boston, with frequent trips to Bombay, where she gobbled up chutney and cheese dosas from the roadside and was fed on her nani’s Kutchi / Gujurati foods at a big old bhooth bungalow (ghost house) in Malabar Hill. The GC’s route can be charted from there to Baltimore, where she lived for four years, to Astoria, Queens. A lack of floorspace drove her to Park Slope, where she currently lives and keeps her food-mapping studio.

The Gourmet Cartographer enjoys:
books
belle and sebastian and bessie smith
warm weather
tank tops
flip flops
avocados
pinching chubby babies
and pumpkin-picking in autumn.

Hi Janki, Thanks for the great review…we miss you!..Come back and see us soon..Ann
Grew up in Boston? Whereabouts? Do you still have family here?
Hi there, just stumbled upon your blog a few days ago, thanks to the kashmiri-chai post on Nirali, and wanted to gush for a sentence or two as to how awesome it is :) As a fellow foodie and herbivore, it’s so refreshing to see someone portray vegetarianism as something that’s limitless and not constraining…keep cartographing :) (PS: I’m going to Bombay later this week and will be sure to check out the paneer bhurji stall guy, thanks to your raving review)
Hey Aarti,
Thanks so much! Definitely check out the paneer bhurji….it is sooooo tasty and the rotis are so thin and delicious! Let me know if you eat anywhere super yummy while you’re in Bombay- and have a good time!
you’ve hit most of the places i went to throughout your blog but i did check out this relatively new pan-asian place called “Lemon Grass” at Phoenix Mills…definitely worth trying. it’s an awesome one-stop place for an eclectic array of Korean, Burmese, Thai and even Tibetan, i think. definitely give it a go on your next trip :)
Hi Aarti,
I’ll definitely check out Lemon Grass the next time I’m in Bombay. It sounds totally delicious.
Dude! Janki, I recommended Lemon Grass in my list of fave Bombay places to eat that you asked me for like 5 weeks ago! You’ve heard of it!
Except, I’ve only been to the one in Bandra. Killer Malaysian penang curry.
Hi Robbie,
Thanks for pointing that out- I forgot you recommended it.
Oy!
